Booking a Function band for your wedding

Wedding function bandIf you are considering a booking a live function band for your wedding reception it is important you watch out for the many pitfalls. This page is designed to help you through the minefield and book a great quality function band at a sensible price.

You should also remember that whilst live music is fantastic, band members can only perform for so long, usually up to 2 hours, so you will require additional entertainment such as a disco to cover the rest of the evening.

 

Tips for booking a function band

1. Start by checking your venue allows bands, sounds silly, but lots of venues have all sorts of restrictions including: No amplified music, no bands after 11pm, electronic noise limiters, the list goes on, don't assume, check, if you don't the result on the night could be the band will be unable to play!

2. You will need to allow plenty of space for the band, depending on the size of the band. Some bands will require a stage and normally it would be up to you to arrange a suitable stage with the venue.

3. Most professional function bands will require a secure private room for changing and for in between their live sets, you will need to ensure you and your venue are able to provide this.

4. Check the band have Public Liability insurance, this will often be required by your venue.

5. You should expect your band to play at least 2 x 1 hour sets, some bands will play more than this, but rarely more than 3 hours with breaks. Bearing this in mind, you will need to book a DJ if you want to keep your dance floor lively during band breaks and after their last set till the end of your reception.
